Keith Richards just announced that he is coming out with a new solo album this fall, Crosseyed Heart, for the first time since 1992. His two solo records so far, Talk is Cheap and Main Offender, are both great, with Talk is Cheap being especially loved by many musicians that I know. I was really into these records at one point. Everyone knows that Richards is a great guitar player, but I always loved his singing too, which is full of feeling. He has great phrasing as well. Above is the single Take it So Hard from Talk is Cheap.
Dean Hurley, who has worked as a music supervisor for David Lynch, is giving away a new solo album. The link above is to the article and if you click on the free download will give you a zip for the record which you can download to your iTunes. The vocals are all old soul samples, while somehow the music is inspire by Hans Zimmer’s score for, wait a minute, Days of Thunder! It sounds like a strange concept for sure, but I am willing to give it a try as I love his work with Lynch and also with singer Chrysta Bell.
The new Brian Wilson album, No Pier Pressure, is out. I can’t wait to hear it. I am a Brian Wilson and Beach Boys fanatic. This is a new song off of the album, Sail Away, featuring old Beach Boys Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin. (Blondie Chaplin was a Beach Boy in the 70’s and has played with everyone, including the Rolling Stones.) I’m so happy Brian Wilson is making new music.
I’m a huge Brian Wilson and Beach Boys fan. He has a new album, No Pier Pressure, coming out this year and above is a video for the first song released from it, The Right Time. I’ve only heard it once, on computer headphones, so I don’t want to say too much. Those gorgeous Brian Wilson harmonies are present, with the bridge especially moving. It’s great to see Al Jardine and David Marks, two Beach Boys, taking part. I couldn’t help but smile watching it. Hopefully some of you will feel the same.
The always great Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy singing his solo song Old Town. I can never be in a bad mood when this song is on. The video is fun as well. I thought I would post this as some of the posts from the last week or two have been a little on the dark side. It’s important to always remember the things that make us happy. Even though it’s cheesy I can’t help but smile every time he makes the girl smile in the video with the trumpet solo. Someday I will drink at that bar in the breakdown.
